Taking Stock

I am in the middle of unpacking the Italian pieces and taking stock. I have started drawing my stock maps, flying heads and all. They help me to move an exhibition along. You can usually tell how close to an exhibition I am by the number of these maps lying around the studio. I might redraw them several times in the final stages of preparation. They help me to think about the pieces when I am not in the studio and they somehow make things coherent. I have outsourced part of their purpose to the digital realm over the past couple of years. I take photos of the pieces as they evolve and look at them on my phone or iPad. I also print a lot of them and stick them around the studio. The caveman in me is reluctant to admit quite how useful I find it to look at quick snapshots of my work but nothing will ever replace these little maps.
